I beg to acknowledge regeipt of your letter Mo, 3462/09, Conf, cated the 6th August Instant, in which you state that the secretary of State decires me to explain how reconcile eertain transactions with paragraph 7 of my letter of the 20th Gatober 1909.

The transections alluded to are:-

1. That I paid various sume of money to an employe for wages. 3. Mat I had cashed several cheques for Tang Tee in connection

with the business.

3. That I had written a letter for the Comp hy ordering butter

from one Johnson.

4. That I had given e chit to the Ice Company also in connection with the Company's business.

In reply I have the honour to submit the followingt-

With reference to the first statement; This employe, an English speaking Australian born Chinemen nemed Campbell,

formerly employed in the Butchery, and who did not care to

take service under Teng Kee unless guaranteed, was engaged

throuch me for Tang Kee, At the time of his employment he

stated that he would look to me for his salary as he was

affeld that Tang Kee would only pay him part of his selary

monthly and have the usual settlement at the Chinese New Year

(es is the Chinese custom) I arranged with Tang Bes to pay

thắc monthly, the amount being refunded to me by Teng Kee. Had

Campbell not been thus engaged, I doubt whether I could have

got out of the Butchery business so well es I did, for et this

time I had lost $1000. The business was sold to Tang Hee for

$200, which won e feir price for the furniture is the ploce,

the goodwill I considered of no velus.

I payed Campbell's wages under the above errangement

until
